Taylor Shaw
Before moving to Washington, D.C. to attend graduate school, I lived in Durham, N.C. A few miles away from my home stood the Russell School. I would pass this old, rundown building at least five times a day. The paint was chipping from the building, the steps were brown with stains and the glass windows were shattered.
I had no idea of the history that was inside of the over 80-year-old building. I later found out my great uncles and aunts were educated in this school. They told me several stories about their about experiences in school.
I became fascinated by the work of Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. I dedicated the final project for my Online News Production course to research, report and develop multimedia content about Rosenwald Schools.
